Recent event allowed everyone to tell their stories that are engaging to their listeners. Amazing Speakers. We don’t just sit and talk to people. The people in the crowd actually get up and do things. There are some incredibly powerful people coming to these events.

The storytelling exercise at the last one was to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty as if you were mad. Bobby gives a few examples….I wanted to date her, I was so mad I couldn’t date her. And, the wicked witch made me so mad.

INTERVIEW SEGMENT:

EFL360 Founders Roundtable

Today we will be talking about planning.

We used to pretend Ryan will keep us on track. Now they are like kitty kats wondering off….

Keeping Bobby on track is like keeping a wild stallion under control. Ryan fell off the horse!

Let’s talk about the title. Where did it come from?

Ryan said let’s talk about planning. There was so much to take into consideration. Great plans, with same outcomes. Nothing happens in-between meetings. Right?

Elephant of a Plan: Bobby is in overwhelm.

Linda Pilkington says “1 bite at a time”.

Bobby looks at the one little thing and it helps get moving.

Kevin (EFL360 plug). You have these big projects. You need to break it down until you get to that one thing that you CAN do.

Dave Allen premise: Getting things done requires getting it broken down into pieces you can do.

Tools: duct tape, pliers, or hammer and screwdriver?

Off track again…

Eliminate Distractions. Bobby says, okay everyone leave the room.

The meeting itself is a big distraction. With a little guidance the meetings end up in a good spot.

Mobile and emails. Timers. An Agenda.

Time is Essential. If you are teaching a class, having an outline and a timer to see where you are at is super powerful.

Writing a Plan Down:

Lists are powerful for Bobby. Marking things off the list as done is hugely effective in getting things done.

Jay mentions the piece of paper Bobby used to carry in his pocket to help him keep track and remember things.

Jay says a neuroscientist proved that in writing things down we validate it and “lock it in”.

Not saying all planning has to be written. But, making a vision. Seeing something makes it stronger. That is how Jay advocates people plan by bringing it into the heart and mind.

Ryan asks about a mock plan of an event. Bobby wants to define the event. Bobby’s surprise birthday party in May. Haha! Yes. That’s a good one.

So Ryan continues we have the list, the time, the agenda, and now what do we do? Takeaways, follow up?

Kevin says being a Secretary writing notes, when we are done discussing a topic be sure and write down who is doing what and by when. Who, What & by When….is the way to get things done. Accountability was right there.

Echo?

Jay says 2 fundamental beliefs with accountability. Bobby agrees these are keys to success. If the buck stops with you, there is reason to fight more to succeed.

Jay says recording it, writing down, what is supposed to be done and who is doing what.

Kevin says it’s too often that we go to meetings a notice the things that get talked about, but never accomplished. Coming to the next meeting and nothing has gotten done.

Jay says that the leader of the meeting needs to explain the process for getting things done with a vision. Management and vision and leadership energizes the plan! Big part of good planning.

Kevin says he is taking us back to WHY.

If you know why you are doing something it is more powerful.

Ryan mentions working for Comcast and seeing metrics in the hall that helped employees get an idea about where they were in their goals. Seeing it laid out for employees helps.

Jay notes the ways to use these metrics (not Matrix) to see strengths and weaknesses, helping us to work our plans. Knowing where we are at and where we are going.

On the BeGoodDoGood philosopy….Ryan wants to know:

Kevin says as long as that attitude gets into the planning, the whole company is informed and in sync with the mission and goals.

Lead from a space of Goodness. –Jay

If we are not pushing good and it’s not happening. Maybe step back and be more conscious about what you are creating in the world.

Make it part of the conversation. The vision.

Ryan’s wife worked a job and during the training she got a book. “The Secret to Walking into”

He tells how the different managers used the book differently.

Energize the project & community. Jay agrees that book helps others see the vision.

Millineals want to follow some kind of cause. If you can get them behind the idea…big takeaway.
