Chris Holifield started his podcasting journey over 5 years ago when he launched the very first episode of I am Salt Lake podcast. Self-taught in the podcasting world, he believes that everyone should have an opportunity to share their story. Even though he was born and raised in Southern California, he will always call Utah home. He lives in the Salt Lake City area with his wife Krissie and their beautiful baby Lucy.

He has been told he sounds like Tom Hanks….if he loses his voice, or if he is a cartoon character. Why Not?

What is your favorite Tom Hanks movie?

Big – What’s yur fave? Private Ryan – He can do anything.

He is going to be Mr. Rogers!

Chris has never seen a Batman movie. Wow!

Christopher Reeves will always be Superman, because he was the first. Bobby just can’t get used to someone famous in a character role….like Vampire Lestat. No Way! NOT Top Gun.

Super heroes should be nobodies. – Bobby

We have a super hero in the studio. Thanks for being on the show Chris Holifield.

Podcasting is so addictive…5 other shows you want to do. The first one is always the hardest. You then have all the equipment, and have momentum.

What do you think about this movement? Is it a disrupter to TV and radio?

Chris thought radio was gone. But, podcast did not take over. They will always be in cars, and older people…in 100 years maybe. But, FM radio is not going away.

In a car you can bring a CD or listen to your Walkman (do people still have those?) Audiobook or podcast in the car. –Bobby

Being dyslexic it takes a lot longer to read, than to listen.

Ready Player One. There is a trailer for a movie coming out in March.

Tangents are good.

TV series (Alex) based off a podcast start up. Coming Up.

Chris says this is a disrupter for podcasters. People are going to search for Biz4Good, cause everybodies looking for that. –Chris

Podcast has not become saturated, so this show will help get the awareness out there.

The media with You Tube and podcasting, the proof is in the pudding. They are popular because people want to listen, not due to inflated promotion and payola. No big time producers and agents. His kids’ YouTube channels they are watching are making millions. They are entertaining. It’s fun.

Off track again…Bobby. That’s what a podcast is! We can do whatever you want. But, while Chris is here he will tell you what to do. HaaHaaa! It’s hard to be on the other side of the ‘table’.

They will have to do it. Bobby will hog the mic, says wifey.

Chris started his show alone, and now has a great co-host. Sometime he can relate to the mic hog thang….

FB live…never know how many viewers you have.

You have to be consistent. You just keep doing the show the same time every time. When you drop off doing a podcast, no one will listen anymore. Chris mentions having the schedule and routine to listen is like building a relationship.

Let’s learn a little more about Chris. (had a horrible childhood)

Chris talks about his mom and bashing heads, but now they get along well. Went to Pennsylvania for a while, but came back to Utah. Recently got remarried and now has a baby girl. He now sees the importance of family. Put down the pitchforks and become family again. Unity. We don’t know how much time we have left.

Children are miracles. Having a baby is the most incredible experience. The power of babies. –Bobby It only gets crazier…

What does Biz4Good mean to you?

It means doing something good and doing some business in return. Putting yourself out there and doing good in your community. If you do good you will be rewarded in return.

Don’t think negatively…people will notice when you are doing good things. You will come to their mind, they might now buy your product, but they might also have opportunities for you.

Bobby says sometimes doing good in business may lead to something else that is good for your business.

Ryan has a story about shopping with his wife. Sweet Story.

Anywhere you go, hotel restaurant or gas station…when they go that extra mile, you are willing to reciprocate.

Ryan remembered Disneyland and an Italian restaurant when he was young. The restaurant, because the people were so good.

Not everyone is a good waiter. You can tell when people tip, whether they have ever had a job where you earn tips. Bobby’s friend was an excellent high paid server, and tipped well.

If I can’t tip good, I don’t even bother. – Chris

Bobby is going to the places where they are behind the register. They have a tip jar there…. Or the receipt has a tip line on a togo order! ???? not sure about tipping here????

Unfair practice? Bobby tips a little in there, but tries to aim high..so goes the 20% route. His wife likes that you tip well on dates. (tip) 😉

Making more than $8 an hour on the podcast. Not exactly making millions of dollars on the podcasts, yet.

Where Were We??????

Let’s talk about the I Am Salt Lake podcast. What is your philosophy? What drives you?

It goes back to doing good. If you do get you get love back. Upon inception of the podcasts, Chris was embraced by the local community. People go out of their way to promote anything local.

When first started his wife at the time did women’s clothing. Chris wanted to do something, too. He didn’t make clothing, but was encouraged to interview people about what they are doing good in the community. It is a cycle of LOVE…

We share all this stuff because we all have the same goal, but do it differently.

It all comes back to the relationships we make in business and in life. – Bobby

Connecting with others is what makes the world go around.

Chris hopes this makes sense to some degree.

Bobby says we believe the secret to success is LOVE.

You are going to grow and get better, rather than focusing on the money.

Chris says, think of all the jobs that you’ve had when they don’t care about you. The ones where he felt love, he never wanted to leave. Even if the pay is not that good. It is how you are treated.

Bobby believes it is the Ultimate Success Principle.

Thousands of business podcasts and info, but not many about doing good as a business model. Bobby’s clients of 11 years know he loves them, and they love him back.

Money and nice things are good, but not everthing.
