Every Resource You Need to Build a Kick-Ass Brand Online

The Big Picture

First, I want to cover the “big picture” of SEO, because the “technical,” intimidating stuff is only a fraction of what’s actually involved in your search rankings. The goal of SEO is to increase your search visibility, which in turn will increase your site traffic.

Blair: Yes. I agree. If that was not true, then I wold not have most of the clients I have now.

  • On-site optimization. On-site optimization is the process of making your site more visible, more authoritative, and easier for Google’s web crawlers to parse and understand
  • Ongoing content marketing. Content marketing is the best way to build your authority and relevance on-site over time.
  • Off-site optimization (link building). Off-site optimization is a collection of tactics designed to promote your on-site content and improve your authority by building links to your site.

Blair: Yes. I AGREE 100%. Off-site optimization is where I come into play. PR has a big role in off-site link building opportunities. I am obviously biased, but this is definitely important for building an audience.

When it comes to SEO:

  1. Find your why or your common message.

Everyone says this, but find the reason behind what you are doing, figure out what your objectives are, and own it.

2. Find your audience.

A lot of people dive into marketing campaigns, whether it’s for a business, cause or whatever. They jump in with some end goals in mind, but they lack the ability to market to their target audience or incorrectly identify who that audience might be. Once you find your royal raving fans or your tribe you need to create a marketing strategy.

3. Hire a professional marketer

This is the key. The problem with having a great product is that, if nobody knows about it then it doesn’t matter, it might as well not exist.
