About Michael:
After spending his youth growing up in a small town in New Jersey, Michael attended the University of Maryland, just far enough away so his parents couldn’t randomly surprise him with an unannounced visit. Throughout that time, he always had a passion for business as his father was himself an entrepreneur. He shaped a lot of who Michael is today and had Michael working in his businesses as early as 10 years old. This allowed Michael to learn early on how important work ethic was, something Michael has always carried with him.
Having been the first person in his high school class to have a job (on top of helping to his father when needed), Michael continued working in college going door to door selling home improvements in some of the toughest areas of Baltimore and Washington DC. The lessons learned going door to door helped Michael when he graduated college and transitioned to a job in New York City.
He began his career in sports advertising and after four years transitioned to work with a childhood friend in the staffing business. In 2007, after “accidentally” identifying a significant business opportunity in Utah, Michael decided to follow the entrepreneurial bug he always had which led him to a six-month commitment in Utah. Knowing one person in the entire state Michael followed his intuition and moved to Utah. That one opportunity turned into opening the business he runs today, a thriving technology talent acquisition firm called Parallel HR Solutions where he is the CEO and President. After first moving, he didn’t think he would last six months but things fell into place and ten years later, the Utah community is now his home.
Being involved in the community has allowed Michael to explore another passion of his – giving back to others while paying it forward. Back in 2007, upon the first two days of arriving in Utah, and without a car, he walked into a pizza shop and saw a flyer for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training fundraising. He decided to go to a meeting. Having seen many in his inner circle affected by Leukemia and a variety of other Cancers, he decided to join Team in Training and for four consecutive years raised money for them while participating in the running of marathons. In honor of others, Michael ran in the SLC, NYC, Vancouver Canada, and Anchorage Alaska marathons.
After taking several years of running off, Michael received a call late last year, letting him know he was nominated for the 2016 Man/Woman of the Year competition for the LLS, a 10 week fundraising competition in honor of two children ages 4 and 5 who were undergoing chemo and suffering from this deadly disease. After being met with intimidation and fear in taking on this responsibility, Michael was able to build an amazingly supportive team and able to raise $75,000 in 10 weeks, one of the most fulfilling experiences he has ever been a part.
Besides Michael’s philanthropic interests, he is heavily involved in the entrepreneur community and is part of several national organizations such as Young Entrepreneurial Council (YEC) and The Founders Organization. These are supportive communities that bring entrepreneurs together to support each other in all areas of business, personal life and philanthropic endeavors.
